Youth Power’s Beginner Culinary Club program teaches safe cooking skills, promotes healthier eating, and fosters community and family engagement by involving guest chefs. Weekly sessions involve preparing recipes with ingredients from the local food pantry, and each semester culminates in a Family Dinner where students showcase their culinary skills.
Our middle school afterschool Beginner Culinary Club was created in response to a student survey identifying cooking as a top interest across four middle schools in Eagle County. The program has positively impacted students’ confidence and cultural awareness, as well as broadened their horizons through visits to local businesses and exposure to a possible career path in the culinary arts.
